ATHLETES WITH DISABILITIES

The Zespri AIMS Games objectives champion diversity and inclusion providing competition opportunities for students with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities which disadvantages them to compete alongside their non-disabled peers. The focus of this inclusive event is on achieving personal bests and encouraging activity.

The sports of Swimming and Cross Country (adapted to athletics 800m) do not require any qualifying or eligibility criteria but the athlete’s disability must disadvantage them to participate or compete against their non-disabled peers in the open event. Para sport classifications are not required.

Zespri AIMS Games also offers separate Athletes with Disabilities divisions in both Table Tennis and Indoor Bowls.

In all other sports, athletes with disabilities can compete in an open class.

If you have a student/s with disabilities interested in competing in the 2025 Zespri AIMS Games, we encourage you to contact us.  Our team will work with your school to answer any questions and ensure that your student’s needs are factored into the wider planning of the event.
